Hospice of South Texas, Victoria’s local not-for-profit hospice, is proud to announce an outstanding achievement in quality of care. Hospice of South Texas was recently awarded an Elite Status by HEALTHCAREfirst Hospice Honors Program. HEALTHCAREfirst Hospice Honors Program recognizes hospices that provide the best patient and family caregiver experience.

Elite Status recognizes a select few hospice organizations who have scored above the national average for quality of care. HEALTHCAREfirst identified award recipients by evaluating performance on a set of twenty‐four quality indicator measures. Hospice of South Texas scored higher than the national average on all 24 quality indicators.

The Hospice Honors is a landmark compilation of hospices providing the best patient and caregiver experience. This prestigious annual review recognizes Hospice of South Texas’ continuous efforts to provide the highest level of quality as measured from the caregiver’s point of view. Quality of care surveys are issued to the primary caregiver 3 months after the death of the patient.

“It is a great honor to recognize that the patients’ families are the ones who have rated their experiences with our organization so highly,” said Michael Chavez, Executive Director, Hospice of South Texas.

Award criteria were based on Hospice CAHPS survey results for an evaluation period of October 2020 – September 2021. Individual hospice performance scores were aggregated from all surveys with a final survey status of complete for the evaluation period and were compared on a question‐by‐question basis to a national performance score calculated from all partnering hospices contained in HEALTHCAREfirst’s Hospice CAHPS database.

“Our goal is and will always be to provide the highest quality of care to our patients and their families. Every day we continue to work to improve quality of life for our patients from ensuring comfort, emotional support, and education to the ability to live each moment more fully. It is a true honor to gain recognition for our commitment to quality care from those whose opinions matter most – the families of those in our care,” said Chavez.
